Job Description - Director of Children’s Ministry

Position: Director of Children’s Ministry (ages infant through 5th grade)

Hours: Children’s Ministry Director is a salaried employee of the church. It is understood that with the nature of Children’s Ministry, some of the work happens outside the walls of the church. Hours and how they are served are negotiated with the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Purpose: Assists the Senior Pastor in managing the ministry and vision of the congregation, shares a common commitment to the mission of the Church, provides spiritual leadership to the children, and serves to address the spiritual needs of the children (of our church and of the community) so that they may grow in faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

Qualifications:
  • Evidence of passion for Children’s Ministry.
  • General knowledge of child development.
  • Experience in effective ministry leadership is desirable.
  • A college degree in a related field such as teaching, counseling, etc. is desirable.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with people of all ages.
  • Ability to organize programs and activities and to activate responsibilities with a minimum of supervision and follow-up.
  • No medical condition that would prevent carrying out duties of the job.
  • Membership in a Christian Church.
  • A good understanding of worship and a willingness to gain knowledge of United Methodist ritual and procedures.
  • Christian qualities of faith, life, and practice.

Responsibilities including, but not limited to:
  • Plans, develops and directs avenues for worship, spiritual direction, support, growth, fellowship, and service opportunities for the Children’s Ministry including, but not limited to, Sunday School, Children’s Church, Acolytes, Wednesday night Children’s Programs, Vacation Bible School, etc.
  • Teaches and/or assists Sunday School Teachers as needs arise; including, but not limited to Sunday School and Wednesday night BEAM activities.
  • Maintains regular communication and works to actively engage with children, parents of children, and volunteers in the Children’s Ministry Program.
  • Supervises the staff Child Care Provider and Nursery Worker. Secures volunteers to help in these program areas each week. Maintains and publishes a monthly schedule of volunteers.
  • Provides church secretary with promotional materials and publicity for the Children’s Ministry Program.
  • Participates in staff and Church Council meetings, giving an update of Children’s Ministry.
  • Maintains confidentiality of relations and records.
  • Becomes familiar with the Employee Personnel Manual and the Safe Sanctuary Policy and adheres to the policies contained therein.
  • Consents to a background check.

Job Description - Director of Youth Ministry

Position: Director of Youth Ministry (ages 6th through 12th grade)

Hours: The Youth Director at FFUMC is a salaried employee of the church. It is understood that with the nature of Youth Ministry, some of the work happens outside the walls of the church. Hours and how they are served are negotiated with the Senior Pastor, the Youth Council, and Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Purpose: Assists the Senior Pastor in managing the ministry and vision of the congregation, shares a common commitment to the mission of the Church, provides spiritual leadership to the youth, and serves to address the spiritual needs of youth (of our church and of the community) so that they may grow in faith and knowledge of Jesus Christ.

  • Provides church secretary with promotional materials and publicity for the Youth Program.
  • Participates in staff and Church Council meetings, giving an update of Youth Ministry.
  • Maintains confidentiality of relations and records.
  • Becomes familiar with the Employee Personnel Manual and the Safe Sanctuary Policy and
  • adheres to the policies contained therein.
  • Consents to a background check.

Job Description - Director of Contemporary Music

Hours: The Contemporary Music Director at FFUMC is a part-time salaried employee of the church. Hours and how they are served are negotiated with the Senior Pastor and Staff Parish Relations Committee.

Purpose / General Responsibilities: Provides leadership and coordination of music in support of the Sunday morning contemporary worship service in a manner that enhances the spirit of worship and assists the congregation in praising and serving God.

Qualifications:
  • Training and/or general experience in Voice and Instrumental Music.
  • A general knowledge of modern sacred music.
  • Membership in a Christian Church.
  • A good understanding of worship and a willingness to gain knowledge
  • of United Methodist ritual and procedures.
  • Christian qualities of faith, life, and practice.

Specific responsibilities including, but not limited to:
  • Selects songs for, and participates fully in, the Sunday morning contemporary worship service.
  • Charts all songs and selects who sings all songs.
  • Selects new songs to learn and coordinates practice sessions as needed.
  • Ensures that the gym sound and video support systems are in good working order and coordinates repair service as needed.
  • Coordinates music for special contemporary worship services with the pastor or leader of the
  • service.
  • Coordinates purchases of music and related supplies within budget allocations.
  • Attends Church Council meetings, giving an update of the Contemporary Music worship program.
  • Maintains confidentiality of relations and records.
  • Becomes familiar with the Employee Personnel Manual and the Safe Sanctuary Policy and adheres to the policies contained therein.
  • Consents to a background check.
